Homemade Flubber Recipe For Kids

At Schelastic Academy we make learning fun! From S.T.E.A.M. to creative art projects, we educate learners to investigate and try new things at all ages. Exploring diverse methods and concepts with peer interaction and project-based learning there is the freedom to discover and fail forward to improve on ideas.

The first time we tried this Flubber recipe was with the students at a “Science in the Park” event.  We had so much fun coloring it and getting our hands all squishy messy (use safety equipment like gloves when using chemicals).  As we created a solid and it easily converted to a “not so solid”, we talked about the ingredients and the safety precautions of using different household items such as borax. We talked about safety in mixing items and integrated math and science vocabulary. There are so many ways to expand on just mixing up a batch and sending them on to play. Try this slime recipe and then alter it with different ingredients like glitter, shampoo, or contact lens solution for more fun! What will you discover?
