Summer School Support:

Summer Tutoring @ SEC: $300.00 per student
Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday: 9:00 a.m. – 3 p.m.
June 7 – 30 & July 5 – 28

Summer Tutoring Support @ Home: $150.00 per student
Skype sessions, study sheets, etc.
June 7 – 30; July 5 – 28

Summer Camps:

Class Offerings: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Lunch break is 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. each day. Lunch will not be provided by SEC – please pack accordingly.

(For elementary students this hour will also include large and small motor skill activities.)

Supply list for elementary classes: Laptop computer, Bible, construction paper, spiral Notebook, folder (with pockets, crayons, scissors, “The Miracle Worker” book (can be purchased online through Amazon or at a local retail bookseller.)

Summer Session 1 – June 7-9 / 14-16: $200.00 per student

9:00 – 11:30 a.m. Students will choose one class.

Group Beginning Guitar – Class 1 (Grades 4 – 12)
• This group class will go over the beginning aspects of playing the acoustic guitar. It will focus on the basics of the instrument, beginning music theory, and basic chords and scales. Students will be able to play at least one popular worship song upon completion of the 6 class periods for this summer session. Limited number of student guitars available for use for class upon registration. Quality, personal student guitars may be purchased for $70.00.(Purchased guitar orders must be placed and paid for by Wednesday, June 1.)

“Just One More Chapter” Book Club – The Miracle Worker
• This class, especially designed for elementary students, will utilize this wonderful literary classic to increase reading
comprehension and vocabulary building. In addition, students will also be introduced to and learn basic American Sign Language. The study of this beloved classic and its characters will help students understand the power of education,
activism, patience and persistence in overcoming very difficult challenges.

12:30 – 3:00 p.m. Students will choose one class.
Fine Arts – Drama 101 Introduction to Acting – “One Acts”
• Through improvisation, script analysis and the study of monologue materials, students are introduced to the fundamentals of performance. Special emphasis is placed on interpretation and translation of the dramatic script as
the basis for exploration of characterization, motivation and transition. Students will prepare and present a “one act”presentation for the SEC Summer Sessions “Fine Arts Night.”

“Oh, the Places You’ll Go”
• This class will take elementary students on a virtual journey each day as they explore states & capitals, fun and interesting facts about our nation/world, and includes arts and crafts incorporating STEM objectives for learning reinforcement.
Summer Session 2 – June 21-23 / 28-30: $200.00 per student

9:00 – 11:30 a.m. Students will choose one class.

Group Beginning Guitar – Class 2* (Grades 4 – 12)
• See description in Summer Session 1.
• *Students registering for Class 2 who completed Class 1 will continue with basic music theory, and advanced chords
and scales. Students will be able to play basic chord charts for songs of their choice.

“Just One More Chapter” Book Club – The Miracle Worker (continued)
• See description in Summer Session 1.

12:30 – 3:00 p.m. Students will choose one class.
Fine Arts – Drama 201 Fundamentals of Public Speaking
• An introduction to the principles and practice of presentational communication, including personal history, impromptu
speaking, humorous and persuasive speeches. Methods of topic analysis, evidence evaluation organization and delivery are covered. The voice is the primary focus of this class, which includes developing breathing techniques
for the actor/presenter, all aspects of tone production, and vocal flexibility for voice and speech. Students will prepare and present a famous speech for the SEC Summer Sessions “Fine Arts Night.”

“Your Fingers Will Always Have a Home”
• This class focuses on the proper technique and fingering for keyboarding skills. Students will utilize both classroom
and online instruction and games for basic drills to increase speed and accuracy in their typing skills. This class also includes Cyber Safety, Understanding Responsible Online Presence (Social Media) and Technology Instructions.

Summer Session 3 – July 5 – 7 / 12 – 14: $200.00 per student

9:00 – 11:30 a.m. Students will choose one class.

Musical Performance – Voice and Movement

• Musical Performance – Vocal: This portion of the group class focuses on singing performance and concentrates on relaxation, vocal and breathing exercises, characterization and the transition from dialog to song. The appropriate
use of the actor’s voice and personality in the selection of performance material is also emphasized.

• Musical Performance – Movement: With an emphasis on movement, this portion of the group class covers the fundamental techniques of movement performance and basic styles through practical application of performing skills.
The focus is placed on body awareness, mental discipline and non-verbal communication as students gain experience working with choreographed material.

12:30 – 3:00 p.m. Students will choose one class.

Fine Arts – Musical Theatre 101
• This course is designed as a continuation of the student’s acting training from summer sessions 1 & 2 and as preparation for introduction to the musical stage and theatrical community. Special emphasis is placed on recognizing character types, musical theatre history, singing presentation, and acting/singing with partners or
groups. (Attendance in Summer Sessions 1 & 2 – Drama 101 & 102 – is NOT a pre-requisite for this class.) Students will prepare and present experts from famous musicals for the SEC Summer Sessions “Fine Arts Night.”

“Beach Party – Surfing Through the Scriptures”
• SEC presents its first “Summertime Bible School” – this fun and interactive class will have students studying Scripture,
utilizing Bible games to increase their knowledge of, and love for, God; and includes several arts and crafts, music, and fine arts for summertime Bible school memories.

Summer Session 4 – July 19 – 21 / 26 – 28: $200.00 per student

9:00 – 11:30 a.m. Students will choose one class.

Musical Performance – Voice and Movement – Class 2 (Attendance in Summer Session 3 is NOT a prerequisite for registration in this class.)
• See description in Summer Session 3
• *Students registered for Class 2 will continue in sequence in both voice and movement and will assist in practical exercises for first-time class participants.

“Just One More Chapter” Book Club – The Miracle Worker (conclusion)
• See description in Summer Session 1. Students will conclude this summer series by watching the movie, “The Miracle Worker,” and will prepare and present an innovative book report.

12:30 – 3:00 p.m. Students will choose one class.

Fine Arts – Musical Theatre 201 – Class 2
• This course is designed as a continuation of the student’s acting training from summer sessions 1 & 2 – Drama 101 & 102 – and Summer Session 3 – Musical Theatre 101 – and as detailed training for the musical stage and theatrical
community. (Attendance in Summer Sessions 1, 2 and/or 3 is NOT a pre-requisite for this class.) Students will prepare and present experts from famous musicals for the SEC Summer Sessions “Fine Arts Night.”

“Summer Olympics 2016 – Going for the Gold”
• Whew! Students will fly through seven continent in six days! Fun facts, interactive games, and arts and crafts will have students hungry to get their passports and begin dreaming of future trips around the world!
